Have you ever heard that newish “word” (which is not a real word)?  It's been around for a couple of years or so. You know the one. STAYcation. I mean, really. That's not a real word. You don't just take one word and stick it onto part of another word, and say it's a word.

Think about how ridiculous it sounds to ask, “What are you doing this summer?  Are you going to STAY or are you going to VA?” It just doesn't work, if you ask me. What will they take in England if they don't take a holiDAY –  a holiSTAY? Too silly.

Besides which, I'm dead against that STAY part. I mean, they told me they'd always take me on VAcation, and I've always been happy to VA for the entire time.  But I can't see STAYing for a week or two. I could get awfully cramped just sitting there for days on end. And after all, a dog's got to eat every now and then and play a bit of fetch. How can he get any food or fun on a STAYcation where he has to STAY the whole time?

This thing could easily get out of hand. Next thing you know, they'll be making me participate in a SITcation or a DOWNcation. Now, I wouldn't mind a DINNERcation one little bit, but if they start any of that other stuff, I'll give 'em a BARKcation they won't forget any time soon!

II got better things to do with my time!
So, spare me the STAYcation stuff, will ya? Just say we're going to have a VAcation at home, and I'll know exactly what you mean. And I'll be happy to STAY for a minute or two now and then, if it's absolutely necessary and if I happen to feel like it. But as for doing it 24/7 during your STAYcation? No way, bud. I got better things to do with my time.
